Great Expectations Students Meet, Greet, Too Eat

A grouping of close xx J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College’s Great Expectations students gathered on Tuesday, September 24 to celebrate the success of ane of their ain in addition to to explore a novel mentoring opportunity.

Great Expectations Coordinator Dedra Hampton introduced invitee speaker Davon Mitchell, a Great Expectations educatee in addition to newly published author.  Davon spoke of his journeying inwards foster care, the benefits of his participation inwards the Great Expectations program, in addition to how he met Nina Wells, a publisher, at a Great Expectation forum a few years ago.  Ms. Wells, impressed past times Davon afterwards speaking amongst him, promised that she would assistance him lay out the majority he was writing if he stayed inwards schoolhouse in addition to graduated.  Mitchell is on rail to graduate from Reynolds this year, in addition to Ms. Wells of late delivered on her promise.  Copies of Mitchell’s novel majority were distributed to lucky door prize winners at the gathering. 

Dedra Hampton too introduced Sean Scott, an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer working amongst the Great Expectations Program.  Sean has been charged amongst developing a novel mentoring programme to gibe volunteer mentors amongst youth to propose in addition to accompany them through higher teaching in addition to their everyday lives.  The grouping enjoyed refreshments spell exploring in addition to discussing the mentoring needs of Great Expectation students.
